With soaring coronavirus infections and overwhelmed hospitals across South America, authorities have no choice but to impose tougher restrictions.

Brazil’s already overwhelmed healthcare system is seeing no relief as new COVID-19 variants fuel further spread.

Hospitals are running out of beds and crucial drugs for patients.

A new study says COVID-19 in Brazil is affecting an alarmingly high number of babies and children, whose death toll could be three times higher than official estimates and health officials are now even asking women to delay pregnancies.

Al Jazeera’s Alessandro Rampietti reports from the Colombian capital Bogota.
