When nine-year-old Rana Haris Ali and his friend discovered the water at Loch Lomond, Scotland, was deeper than they’d thought, mum Edina Olahova jumped in to save her son.

But both were pronounced dead at the scene, along with their friend Muhammad Asim Riaz.

The tragedy happened on what’s been described as “one of the worst weekends” in this national park’s history. Six people died in Scotland’s water in recent days – across the UK more than 30 have drowned in the past two weeks.
