BBC News published this video item, entitled “Boris Johnson’s Covid strategy in turmoil as Manchester refuses toughest restrictions – BBC News” – below is their description.
Boris Johnson’s strategy to tackle the pandemic in England with a 3-Tier system of restrictions set by the government in Westminster is facing a major challenge. The Mayor of Greater Manchester, Labour’s Andy Burnham, is resting plans to place the region in Tier 3, with the toughest restrictions. He said it would amount to a “punishing lockdown” without proper financial support for the people and businesses affected. His views were backed by Conservative MPs and local council leaders. Meanwhile more areas of England are being moved up to Tier 2 – or High Alert. This now will include cities, towns and villages stretching from Barrow in Furness in Cumbria to Elmbridge in Surrey. It includes London, Essex, and York and it means that 28 million people will no longer be able to mix indoors with other households. Huw Edwards presents BBC News at Ten reporting by political editor Laura Kuenssberg, special correspondent Lucy Manning, Ed Thomas in Burnley and economics editor Faisal Islam.
