Boris Johnson has told global leaders at the virtual G7 summit that there is “no point” in countries vaccinating their own populations if they don’t help to ensure the “whole world” gets protection.

The prime minister pledged to give most of the UK’s surplus vaccines to poorer countries and urged more funding for the international global vaccine supply scheme Covax.

But China is stealing a march on western countries by already donating vaccines to the developing world.
