Prime Minister Boris Johnson is leading MPs in paying tribute to Sir David Amess.

Parliament is sitting for the first time since the death of Sir David, who was killed in a suspected extremist attack at his constituency surgery on Friday.

Mr Johnson, Sir Keir Starmer and Ian Blackford are all speaking for around 10 minutes in memory of the MP for Southend West.

In This Story: David Amess

Sir David Anthony Andrew Amess MP was a British politician who served as Member of Parliament for Southend West from 1997 until his killing in 2021. He previously served as MP for Basildon from 1983 to 1997. He was a member of the Conservative Party. He was born and grew up in Essex.

On October 15 2021, Amess was fatally stabbed at a constituency surgery in Leigh-on-Sea in Essex, UK. A 25 year old suspect was detained at the scene.
