Boris Johnson is announcing a delay to the end of his lockdown roadmap amid a surge of coronavirus cases, which have now reached a three-month high.

England was set to move to Step 4 of the Government’s lockdown roadmap on June 21, when the last remaining restrictions would have been lifted.

Speaking at a Downing Street press conference, the Prime Minister mistakenly said the unlocking will take place on July 29. Step 4 will instead take place on July 19.

The delay to the roadmap by four weeks will mean capacity limits remaining in place for sporting events, pubs and cinemas, while nightclubs will remain closed.
