Boris Johnson has announced that people in England will be able to take a step closer to normality from next week as more indoor mixing and hugging loved ones will be permitted once again.

It comes after experts said the nation was in a “strong position” to press ahead with the easing of coronavirus restrictions, as hospital admissions and new cases have dipped to the lowest levels seen last summer.

The Prime Minister has formally signed off on the return of socialising indoors and indoor dining from May 17.

Earlier today the four UK chief medical officers agreed the Covid-19 alert level should move from level 4 to level 3, meaning the “epidemic is in general circulation”.
