South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “Blistering temperatures in North Korea as heatwave grips the region after tropical storm” – below is their description.
A heatwave has struck North Korea where people on the streets of the capital Pyongyang have been seen using fans and umbrellas to try and keep cool as temperatures soared to about 30 degrees Celsius (86°F) on July 5, 2022. According to the country’s Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, 491 patients were treated for heat-related illnesses from May 20-July 4, far more than the 152 cases reported in the same period one year earlier. The extreme temperatures were blamed on tropical storm Aere, which brought hot and humid air to the entire Korean peninsula and a spike in temperatures in nearby Japan. Forecasters said temperatures will start to fall in North Korea from July 7.
