Blasts, gunfire as ISIL attacks Iraq’s Kirkuk

ISIL fighters have attacked government buildings, police stations and a power plant in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk.

Shocked residents in Kirkuk are asking why they were not better protected from the armed group after several surprise attacks attempted to divert Iraqi forces away from Mosul.

Al Jazeera’s Hoda Abdel-Hamid reports from Kirkuk.
