7NEWS Australia published this video item, entitled “Bill Spedding awarded $1.5M for ‘malicious prosecution’ over the disappearance of William Tyrrell” – below is their description.
An early suspect in the disappearance of toddler William Tyrrell has won his malicious prosecution case against the state of New South Wales.
Several years ago the police investigation focused on Bill Spedding. Today’s judgement lasted just seconds with Justice Ian Harrison awarding him almost $1.5 million in damages.
Spedding sued the state in April, saying that the investigation ruined his reputation, caused him to lose 20 kilograms and left him with crippling anxiety.
William Tyrrell disappeared from a house at Kendall in September 2014, and because Spedding had been at the home in his capacity as a washing machine repairman, detectives focused on him months later.
Because of the wrongful prosecution, Spedding received death threats and was encouraged to take his own life. He was wrongfully accused of sexually assaulting two children in the 80s, but the allegations resurfaced in the hope of putting pressure on to admit his involvement in William’s disappearance. It resulted in him being held in protective custody for almost a month.
Former detective Gary Jubelin told Bill Spedding that he would ruin him. The 70-year-old’s lawyer told 7NEWS outside court that the result serves as a warning for future police investigations.
On top of the $1.5 million, the NSW Government must pay court costs which could push it well over the two million dollar mark.

Does anyone believe the NSW police force is legalized organized crime? What do you think of Daniel Keneally’s efforts? The cover-up, and the inadequate mode of sentencing he’s facing?
