U.S. President Joe Biden is on his first visit to Asia May 20-24, with visits to South Korea and Japan. The tour includes meetings with the leaders of the Quad, which include the United States, Japan, Australia and India. Biden is likely to affirm with Asian allies their response to Russia-Ukraine conflict, and the latest DPRK missile tests. The U.S. wants to advocate its Indo-Pacific strategy in Japan and South Korea, but U.S. allies still have their own objectives. How workable is Biden’s Indo-Pacific strategy? And will this trip help Japan and South Korea revive a relationship that has stalled in recent years?
