Biden to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan by September 11

Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “Biden to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan by September 11” – below is their description.

The Biden administration will pull its remaining 2,500 troops out of Afghanistan by September 11 of this year, ending the United States’s longest-running war after 20 years.

Biden’s fellow Democrats in Congress largely supported his move but Republicans said the move posed a security threat to the US.

Former President Donald Trump had set a withdrawal deadline for May 1.

Biden has said the answer to the violence in Afghanistan was not a military one.

Al Jazeera’s Mike Hanna reports from Washington, DC, the US.
