  • Sky News Australia published this video item, entitled “Biden re-entering Paris Agreement ‘makes no difference’ to Morrison” – below is their description.

A Biden administration will make no difference to the Morrison government’s approach to climate change and emissions targets just as they made no change under Donald Trump’s presidency, says former Labor senator Stephen Conroy. President-elect Joe Biden’s pick for the United States’ first Special Climate Envoy, John Kerry, announced he will be asking other countries to be more ambitious in their climate policies. The Morrison government responded and said it didn’t pull out of the Paris Agreement under President Trump and similarly would not change under a Biden administration – but would act in Australia’s best interests. “Morrison rejected the Trump position, he said ‘we are staying in Paris’ and they, according to their analysis, are on track to meet their commitments that they signed up to,” Mr Conroy told Sky News. “So, Biden saying ‘hey we’re back in’ makes zero difference. “There was some thought that the election of Biden would create some sort of incredible political trouble on climate issues for Morrison. “It’s just a false analysis. “At the same time though, those in Labor that believe ‘this is the big stick we can go after the government now’, they’re getting it completely wrong. “Biden did not get elected on climate issues, not in the slightest, it was a deep revulsion of Donald Trump. “John Kerry is going to be a warrior for climate change and the Labor Party does not need to get sucked into this trap.”
