Judge Peter Cahill read a guilty verdict on all three counts, as reached by the jury in the murder trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin in the death of black American George Floyd after kneeling on his neck in 2020. U.S. President Joe Biden described it “a murder that lasted for almost 10 minutes in broad daylight,” which was seen by “the whole world”. The murder conviction was much too rare in a country plagued by systemic racism and called for meaningful police reform measures, he added.
