Global News published this video item, entitled “Biden, leaders from Finland and Sweden deliver remarks following White House meeting | LIVE” – below is their description.
U.S. President Joe Biden alongside Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson will be holding a news conference from the Rose Garden at the White House in D.C. on Wednesday morning.
Finland and Sweden officially submitted their membership requests this week to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) with Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg saying that the military alliance stands ready to seize the historic moment and move quickly on allowing the countries to join its ranks.
The official applications, handed over by Finland and Sweden’s ambassadors to NATO, set a security clock ticking. Russia, whose war on Ukraine spurred them to join the military organization, has warned that it wouldn’t welcome such a move, and could respond.
For now though, the application must be weighed by the 30 member countries. That process is expected to take about two weeks, although Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed reservations about Finland and Sweden joining.
