U.S. President Joe Biden announced a comprehensive strategy to crack down on gun violence in the country on Wednesday.
The remarks came after a meeting on crime prevention and intervention with mayors, law enforcement officials, and community organizers from across the country.
The president acknowledged the summer crime spike, and argued that the gun reform and prevention measures that advocates have been pushing for years – background checks, assault weapons bans, and community programs – work and save lives.
“Five per cent of gun dealers turns out, in the study we did, showed that 90 per cent of illegal guns were found in crime scenes [were] sold by five per cent of gun dealers,” Biden said Wednesday.
