U.S. President Joe Biden, alongside Vice-President Kamala Harris, delivered his first remarks since he took office on foreign policy on Thursday afternoon at the State Department.

Biden announced he’s issuing a presidential memorandum to protect the rights of LGBTQI people worldwide. The president said the U.S. government will ensure diplomacy and foreign assistance are “working to promote the rights of those individuals,” including fighting against criminalization of this community and protecting LGBTQI refugees and asylum seekers.

Plus, he said he’s approving an executive order to begin restoring the country’s refugee admissions program, due to what he called an “unprecedented global need.”
