World leaders and policymakers were gathering in England on Friday to attend the G7 summit taking place in Cornwall over the weekend.

Activists from a coalition of different groups also travelled to Cornwall to send a message, in particular to US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who met on Thursday ahead of the summit.

They want leaders to “crack on the crises” – referring to the issues that they believe are of urgency to the world: the pandemic, gender equality and climate action.

The group had a barge carrying inflatable figures of Johnson and Biden floating off the coast of Cornwall on Friday ahead of the official start of the G7 summit in the region.

The figures had messages written on their hands reading “Wave of Hope” and “Crack the Crises”.

The summit, which brings together some of the world’s wealthiest nations, is expected to have recovery from the global coronavirus pandemic and the climate crisis at the top if its agenda.
