The 6 th International Yoga Day will be marked at a time when the global outbreak of
COVID-19 has upended lives and disrupted lifestyles of people across the world. The
message of Yoga in promoting physical, emotional and mental health and the well-being
of humanity have never been more relevant. There is a growing trend of people all over
the world embracing Yoga to fight social isolation and depression during the pandemic.
Recognizing this important role of Yoga, the Permanent Mission of India in New York,
together with Yoga gurus and therapists, has created a special Yoga module, “Yoga for
Health – Yoga at Home”, which includes simple Yoga exercises, breathing and
meditation practices designed for all age-groups to improve physical, mental, emotional
and spiritual health. Yoga Guru Kishor Chandra from the Bhakti Center will be
offering a simple session virtually on June 19 introducing Asanas and Pranayama that
will help balance and soothe the heart. The Bhakti Center is a spiritual cultural center on
New York City’s Lower East Side with a talented staff devoted to sharing the experience
of self-transformation through the timeless culture and practices of Bhakti yoga.
