Global News published this video item, entitled “Belarus protests: Over 100,000 protesters fill streets of Minsk following data leak” – below is their description.
More than 100,000 people flooded the streets of Minsk, Belarus, on Sunday on the sixth straight weekend of protests against President Alexander Lukashenko, keeping pressure on the authoritarian leader to step down. Protesters were draped in flags representing the opposition and chanted “go away” as they marched through the capital. The Eastern European country was plunged into turmoil following the August election that saw Lukashenko win by a landslide, but which the opposition have claimed was rigged. In tandem with the protests, anonymous hackers leaked the personal data of 1,000 police officers in retaliation for a crackdown on protesters in which thousands of people have been detained, and there have been reports of beatings and torture in jail.
