The Belarus opposition’s calls for a nationwide strike went largely unheeded Monday, hours after President Alexander Lukashenko defied their ultimatum to step aside. FRANCE 24 correspondent Gulliver Cragg says the lack of an organised national union movement has made it hard to mobilise workers against the government in state-owned factories, who risk losing their wage, or even job.
