There has been an escalation of violence in the Belarusian capital. The internet has been shut down, and police say they have detained at least 250 demonstrators, who were gathering for another protest in Minsk. They have been demanding President Alexander Lukashenko’s resignation ever since he was declared the winner of last month’s disputed election. Critics say the vote was rigged. More than 10,000 women defied a government crackdown to rally in the city on Saturday for the 35th consecutive day. –
