Beirut explosion: Signs of life detected at building destroyed by blast

Global News published this video item, entitled “Beirut explosion: Signs of life detected at building destroyed by blast” – below is their description.

A Lebanese rescue worker said Thursday that signs of life have been detected in the rubble of at least one building destroyed by the Aug. 4 explosion at Beirut’s port. Eddy Bitar told Reuters that a censor provided by a Chilean rescue team had detected a pulse somewhere in the wreckage. “It indicated there is a pulse, 18 breathes a minute, so this along with the temperature sensor means there is a possibility of life, according to their sensor,” he explained. Bitar said a civil defence unit had been called in and would bring extra equipment to help conduct the search in the Gemmayze area of Beirut, one of the worst-hit areas by the blast. At least 190 people were killed and 6,000 others were injured when some 3,000 tons of improperly stored ammonium nitrate ignited, causing the explosion.
