China has issued a response to the U.S. after Washington said it would support temporarily easing intellectual property protections on COVID-19 vaccines. At a news conference Thursday, Commerce Ministry spokesperson Gao Feng said China was the first country to call for vaccines being made a global public good. He added that China has already implemented policies in support of this effort. Gao said the World Trade Organization is currently discussing ways to make vaccines more accessible globally. He said China believes the WTO will be able to play an active role in this process.
