Beijing Olympics end: COVID-19, human rights boycotts and doping mark games

Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “Beijing Olympics end: COVID-19, human rights boycotts and doping mark games” – below is their description.

The Winter Olympic Games close on Sunday against the backdrop of diplomatic boycotts and global protests from activists.

International condemnation of the Chinese government for human rights abuses of its Uighur minority and lingering questions about the fate of tennis star Peng Shuai have overshadowed the event for months.

Organisers, however, say the event ran smoothly despite strict COVID-19 controls and a doping scandal that have also left their mark on these games.

Al Jazeera’s Katrina Yu reports from Beijing, China.
