Andy Warhol, the pop art legend, turn a can of soup into a creative icon. He was the exemplary American artist of the 20th century, a symbol of what many think of modern art today. In an exhibition in Beijing, named “Becoming Andy Warhol,” curators present over 400 works, covering the artist’s whole career, hoping to paint a new and retrospective picture of Andy Warhol for audiences in China, particularly his story with this country. In 1982, Andy Warhol visited China. He took his camera to sites including the Great Wall and Tian’anmen Square, leaving some candid yet dynamic shoots that’re also historic as they capture the country’s transition through reform and opening-up.
