Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “‘Barricaded’ Myanmar protesters leave after tense standoff” – below is their description.
Police and security forces have allowed hundreds of protesters in Myanmar’s biggest city Yangon to leave after they hunkered down in one district in defiance of a weeks-long nightly curfew to protest the military government’s coup.
It follows United Nations chief Antonio Guterres’ warning that security forces should show “maximum restraint” in dealing with the protesters.
Security forces have killed dozens of protesters in weeks of demonstrations after Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi was detained on February 1 following the military’s take over.
The government has revoked the license of five independent media outlets.
Al Jazeera’s Katia Lopez-Hodayan reports.
