Bloomberg QuickTake: Now published this video item, entitled “Barrett Meets With GOP Senators Ahead of Supreme Court Confirmation Vote” – below is their description.
U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice nominee Amy Coney Barrett is on Capitol Hill Wednesday meeting with Republican Senators as the Senate Judiciary Committee is poised to approve Barrett’s nomination Thursday, sending it to the Senate. During Judge Barrett’s meeting with Sen. Lamar Alexander, the Tennessee lawmaker told reporters “I’m impressed with Judge Barrett. She brings a scholarship and a good temperament and integrity to the court.” Wyoming Republican Sen. John Barrasso said: “I am absolutely delighted with her nomination. The people of Wyoming are so happy that she’s been nominated because she’s true to the Constitution. And that’s the whole Wyoming way of thinking about things.” Barrett appears to have an easy path to confirmation, with a majority of the Senate supporting her nomination and a final vote expected on Monday. She could be sworn in as a justice almost immediately, just a week before the election. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said confirming Barrett, 48, will be “another signature accomplishment” for Republicans in their effort to fill the courts with “men and women who believe in the quaint notion that maybe the job of a judge is to actually follow the law.” Democrats have argued strenuously against confirmation, arguing the seat last held by the late liberal icon Ruth Bader Ginsburg should not be filled so close to the election. But they have no recourse to stop her confirmation.Bloomberg QuickTake: Now YouTube Channel
