There have been many painful lessons from the coronavirus crisis but one country has perhaps more to teach us than most.
Germany has one of the lowest death rates in Europe thanks to its testing regime and ability to isolate older people.
So the leader of Barnsley Council knew who to turn to when it became a Covid hotspot.
He contacted the mayor of its twin town near Stuttgart which has ten times fewer cases.
And they both found something to learn.
