Sky News Australia published this video item, entitled “Banning Australians from coming home ‘is unthinkable'” – below is their description.
Health Minister Greg Hunt says while everything is being done to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 in Australia, banning overseas Australians from coming back home would be “unthinkable”. During an interview with Sky News, Mr Hunt said right now “we’re in a deeply privileged position that there are no Australians on ventilators for COVID-19 today”. He said this was because “of what we’ve achieved in containment and because of the capacity we’ve built”. Mr Hunt spoke of the target “goal of zero community transmission,” which was to be achieved through a suppression strategy. “The point about true elimination would mean that you would have to ban Australians from coming home, which would be unthinkable,” he said. “That you would have to stop all your wheat exports, stop all your wool exports, stop the import of critical medicine, because wherever there’s an exchange with the outside world, there is the risk. “And so we do everything we can to mitigate that risk,” he said.
