‘Almost a million’ N95 masks removed from alleged hoarder

In the US, ABC News reported on the FBI confronting a man in Brooklyn, NY, who had been allegedly “hoarding” equipment, including almost one million N95 respirator masks, during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Authorities remove close to one million N95 respirator masks, gloves, gowns and other medical supplies after a Brooklyn man was caught allegedly hoarding the equipment. He faces charges for lying to investigators and coughing on FBI agents who confronted him.

It is unclear what the purpose behind having so many masks was, nor is it known exactly what federal law was used for the removal of this equipment, though it is clearly more medical devices than one individual or family are able to use.

Just an incredible story of selfishness – or an abuse of power to stripe a private individual of items fairly purchased? Leave your thoughts in the comments section, below.

  1. This of course isn’t a hoarder. He spent millions to buy it. A hoarder doesn’t spend so much money just to keep it to himself. I’m sure they will find out he bought everything recently and was selling them for very high prices.

  2. There are many possible legal predicates (e.g., public health, zoning, etc.) to seize and remove the materials) but all would be well-served to become educated at the federal government’s broad power under the U. S. Constitution to take aka seize private property for a public purpose – the restriction on that power is to provide just compensation.

  3. Funny the Federal government will do this to a citizen, but let companies like 3M sell their masks to other countries because they were the “highest” bidder and the U.S. citizens have to go with out masks for protection.

  5. Quite disgusting but the real question is under what authority can they confiscate somebody’s property? Did this person steal it? Or is he just a hoarder and a w****? But again what authority did the officials have to remove this property from this person’s home?
