South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “Authorities on alert as wild elephants close in on major city in China” – below is their description.
A herd of 15 wild Asian elephants is closing in on Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan province in China, after travelling nearly 500km from their normal habitat in Mengyangzi Nature Reserve. The elephants have been on the move since December, 2020. Local authorities deployed 675 police officers and 10 tonnes of food in an attempt to divert the herd away from the heavily-populated city. Experts say the animals’ journey is a normal phenomenon and that they are simply searching for a new home.
