Stem cells transplants for blood cancer patients are risky procedures, and when the COVID-19 pandemic caused borders to shut they became even more so. In a matter of weeks, human couriers were prevented from carrying the life-saving treatments around the world and into Australia. Hospitals and laboratories had to work quickly to find a work around, and do not expect to return to normal for at least another year.
