Today is World Press Freedom Day.
It’s an occasion Australian citizen Toe Zaw Latt is fortunate to commemorate, after working as a journalist in Myanmar.
As the coup unfolded, he feared he would suffer the fate of his peers and be arrested at the airport.
From hotel quarantine in Adelaide, he told the ABC what it was like living under military rule, and how he got out.
This story was produced by Erin Handley.
