Australia swears in Anthony Albanese as 31st prime minister after election victory

Global News published this video item, entitled “Australia swears in Anthony Albanese as 31st prime minister after election victory” – below is their description.

Australia’s Labor Party leader Anthony Albanese was sworn in Monday, local time, as the country’s 31st prime minister, promising a “journey of change” as he had vowed to tackle climate change, rising living costs and inequality. Albanese was sworn in by Gov. Gen. David Hurley at a ceremony in Canberra.

Labor returns to power after nine years in opposition buoyed by a wave of unprecedented support for the Greens and climate-focused independents, helped oust the conservative Liberal-National coalition in this year’s election.

While the votes are still being counted and the makeup of the government still to be finalized, Albanese’s party is just a few seats shy of a majority, but was sworn in so he could attend a key meeting of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue in Tokyo on Tuesday.
