Australia and New Zealand have joined forces and deployed surveillance flights to assess the damage caused by a huge undersea volcanic eruption in Tonga. The extent of the damage to the Pacific island nation remains unclear, with the subsea communications cable likely severed and a widescale ash plume limiting communications to and from the area.
