The lawyer for Myanmar’s detained elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi and ousted President Win Myint said Friday he is seeking an “unconditional release” for his clients, but said he has been unable to meet with them.
“We hope for the best, but prepare for the worst,” Khin Maung Zaw told reporters.
Maung Zaw made the comments in Myanmar’s capital Naypyitaw, while protesters in another city voiced their opposition to the military coup.
Residents in Yangon city banged pots and pans in their nightly protest against the military coup. Growing numbers of residents have been joining in the civil disobedience campaign, expressing opposition to the military takeover.
