Kwasi Kwarteng has said attending a champagne reception for Conservative donors on the day of the mini-budget was a mistake.

In an LBC interview at the party conference, the chancellor said ‘it probably was not the best’ decision but he attended a party with hedge fund managers after the mini-budget for about quarter of an hour – maybe more.
