Firefighters fought a fire in a building in Athens, Greece on Wednesday, sparked by a large explosion that left one person hospitalized with burns and two others treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the explosion has not yet been determined, but according to reports police are looking into a possible gas leak.

Debris and broken glass littered the ground following the explosion, with neighbouring shops losing windows. Charred and twisted metal and hanging pipes were also seen from buildings around the area as the blast reached a 200-metre radius, police said.
