Peru’s military says at least 16 people, including two children, have been killed in an area known for cocaine production.

The killings happened less than two weeks before Peruvians elect a new president, in a runoff between right-wing Keiko Fujimori and left-wing Pedro Castillo.

Al Jazeera’s Mariana Sanchez reports from Lima, Peru.
