Hate crimes against Asian-Americans have spiked, says the FBI, as some blame them for the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Actor Will Yun Lee says he fears for the safety of his family, once things calm down and they re-enter public life. There is also a larger fear in Hollywood that fewer movies telling Asian stories will be commissioned because of the existing stigma.
Among the hate crimes reported in major Chinese communities in the United States, there have been incidents of people being sprayed with air freshener on the street, being bullied at school and physically abused due to the stigma surrounding the origin of the virus.
