Arts funding will prioritise ‘crown jewel institutions’, says Culture Secretary

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said on Monday that the Government’s £1.57 billion bailout of the culture sector will begin with ‘crown jewels’ such as the Royal Albert Hall.

The Government announced a package of support on Sunday for ‘museums, galleries, theatres, independent cinemas, heritage sites and music venues’ in the form of grants and loans.

While the government will also make a decision about whether Huawei should be stripped out of Britain’s 5G network this month, indicating a U-turn is on the cards.
