South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “Artificial coral reefs planted in South China Sea to celebrate World Oceans Day” – below is their description.
Conservation groups working in China’s southern island province of Hainan marked the 14th World Oceans Day on June 8, 2022, by creating artificial reefs in the tropical seas around Fenjiezhou Island. Divers attached antler-shaped corals to the tops of sunken metal frames designed to form the structure of the new reef, and affixed clumpy corals to the lower parts of the frames. Hainan has been attempting to restore ocean biodiversity in nearby waters by preserving the region’s unique coral ecosystems.
