Many people in Afghanistan say they’ve gone into hiding for fear of Taliban reprisals. The Taliban have vowed not to retaliate against people who worked with foreign forces and organizations.

But what they are experiencing on the ground tells a different story, even if the Taliban deny carrying out raids.

Outwardly, the Taliban are trying to present a more moderate face. As well as the promised amnesty, they have vowed to respect women’s rights. But what that means in reality is yet to be seen.
