ITV News published this video item, entitled “Are San Francisco’s ‘Tiny Homes’ the future of city housing? | ITV News” – below is their description.
San Francisco is one of the most expensive cities in the world to live in.
In America’s tech capital, even programmers with six-figure salaries have struggled to afford the rent and many have been being priced out of the city.
This has led to a growing trend for minimalism, with people choosing to downsize their living spaces to make them affordable.
‘Tiny houses’ can be rented at around $750 a month, including rent and utilities, and whilst they are only around 350 square feet, the design of these homes are something Marie Kondo would be proud of.
Nina Nannar meets the pioneers of this new way of living in one of the many communities, meeting residents ranging from retirees to young professionals working for start-ups.
This was filmed prior to the pandemic which made masks and social distancing the norm.
On Assignment is ITV’s current affairs series presented by Rageh Omaar where ITV News journalists contribute in-depth reports from around the world on the stories behind the headlines.
