Sky News published this video item, entitled “Apology given to victims of Oldham grooming gangs” – below is their description.
WARNING: This report contains details of violent sexual assault.
Victims of grooming gangs in Oldham have received an official apology, after a major report said police and the local council failed to protect young people from sexual exploitation.
The Independent Review looked into the alleged grooming of children in council homes, shisha bars and by taxi drivers in the town.
The report also describes how Shabir Ahmed, the ring-leader of a notorious grooming gang in Rochdale, was employed by Oldham Council as a welfare rights officer, with police failing to inform his employers of his history.
It concluded there was no evidence of a cover-up by authorities.
Sky’s Becky Cotterill reports.
