Anti-India protests & clashes erupt in Kashmir

Indian soldiers have shot and killed a young man at a checkpoint in the Himalayan region of Kashmir, locals and officials said, triggering anti-India protests and clashes in the disputed region.

The man was driving a car on Wednesday and ignored signals to stop at two checkpoints in the western outskirts of Srinagar, the region’s main city, said India’s Central Reserve Police Force in a statement. The victim’s father, Ghulam Nabi Shah, refuted the official version saying his son did not jump any checkpoint. He told reporters that soldiers first stopped him and then shot and killed him.
