Supporters of Myanmar’s ousted civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi have formed a National Unity Government (NUG), which was formed to play an essential role in negotiations to resolve the crisis stemming from the recent military coup in the country. Prominent pro-democracy activist Min Ko Naing announced the NUG formation in a video statement on April 16, 2021. The group includes ousted lawmakers, members of ethnic minority groups, leaders of the anti-coup protests and other opponents of Myanmar’s junta.
