Anti-Asian hate crimes bill passes US Congress

Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “Anti-Asian hate crimes bill passes US Congress” – below is their description.

The US Congress has passed a bill aimed at preventing violence against Asian Americans.

Over the past year, hate crimes against Asian Americans, including a shooting in March in Georgia that killed six women of Asian descent have increased.

Former President Donald Trump’s labelling the coronavirus a Chinese flu has spurred the attacks, say Asian American activists.

The COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act speeds up the prosecution of incidents involving Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

Al Jazeera’s Heidi Zhou-Castro reports from Washington, DC, the US.
