Anthony Albanese has congratulated the Socceroos in parliament for their 1-0 win over Denmark at the FIFA World Cup, which secured a place in the tournament’s knockout stage for just the second time.
The prime minister joked that Australians may receive an extra public holiday if the team managed to won the trophy.
“It was a bit late at 4am in the morning to call a public holiday today, but I reckon if we win the World Cup, well that might be a different story.”
